IMF’s 8 October article puts rights and settlement back at the centre of tokenization. A family reviewing a product can ask what the record represents, who owes an obligation, and how an exit turns into usable funds.
This week’s prompt
The IMF’s official article of 8 October 2026 identifies legal certainty, regulatory clarity, interoperability and settlement assets as conditions to address. The questions below are G70’s general review approach, rather than an IMF due-diligence checklist.
Which rights document sits behind the wallet record?
Ask the product provider to connect the token record with the formal documents. What right can the holder exercise, and against which legal entity? Who holds or safeguards the underlying asset? What process applies if the token record differs from the contract or register?
This article does not determine whether a token represents direct ownership of an asset. The nature of the rights, applicable law and enforceability require review of the actual documents by qualified independent professionals. The illustration suggests a reading order; it cannot establish those rights.
Can a transferable token become usable funds?
G70 perspective: ask separately about transfer, sale and redemption. Who is obliged to buy or pay? On which venue? In which currency or other settlement instrument? What approvals are required, and when can the proceeds actually be used?
Even where a product displays live trading, ask what happens during a market pause, transfer restriction or redemption delay. A screen price alone is not a confirmed cash-availability date. Actual tradability and payment obligations remain matters to verify with the documents and service providers.
Who handles a mismatch or a service interruption?
G70 perspective: ask the provider to explain the separate responsibilities of the issuer, asset custodian, platform and wallet service. Put official contact details, enquiry or dispute routes, retrievable records and service-closure arrangements on one page.
In our view, an authorised family member should be able to take over using that page, without relying on another person’s phone. Record the necessary information and permissions; do not place private keys or sensitive credentials in an ordinary shared document. This article assesses no product’s safety, investment merit or legal outcome.
